America at the Crossroads

A Most Important Election!

In this election year of 2012 the citizens of the United States of America will make one of the most important decisions of their lives when they cast their vote for President of the United States.  The results of this presidential election will have far reaching implications for our country and significant ramifications (see WOW) that will affect the personal lives of each and every one of us.  In 2008 our country took a sharp turn to the left and many who voted for Barack Obama now realize that they made a terrible mistake.  After a three year dalliance with Obama’s left wing liberal policies most Americans are now worse off than they were before his administration took control.  For those of us who took the time to understand the issues and study the candidates, all the information that would portend this disaster was there in 2008.  Unfortunately, we have all had to suffer because so many individuals were duped by the charm, charisma and slick tongue of a community organizer with no leadership experience.  While many would say they should have known better, we applaud them for admitting their folly and for rejoining us in defending America.  Together we can restore the values we cherish and the principles on which our great country was founded.

Let’s Take America Back

This year more than at any time in recent history the presidential election will determine the future of our country.  Will we return to the tried and true ways that have made us the exceptional country that we have been or will we continue down the road to socialism and mediocrity?  With so much riding on the results of this election it will be the responsibility of every citizen to become familiar with the issues and to know where the candidates stand.  If enough Americans make the effort to do that, Barack Obama is sure to be a one term president.  Over the next ten months we at What Makes US Great will endeavor to help bring the facts to our readers so that each of us can make the logical choice when we exercise our right to choose the next leader of our country on November 6, 2012.  Be sure to return for our next posting where you will see how we believe the Republican Presidential Nomination is shaping up and, God willing, will provide us with the next President of the United States.

Surprise! Surprise! Daniel Ellsberg Joins Occupy Wall Street

Still Down On America

It should come as no surprise that Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers infamy has been seen with the campers at the UC Berkeley OWS protests.  He now joins ‘Nixon hater’ John Dean and the big union bosses in supporting this group of socialists, druggies and other assorted losers.  A Harvard graduate (also no surprise), Ellsberg leaked top secret military information to the press in 1969 at a time when brave men and women were in harm’s way serving their country in Vietnam.  He was later tried for espionage.

Old Wasted Socialists

By descending into the bowels of the OWS movement Ellsberg has once again leaked secret information…information that the puppeteers behind the occupiers don’t want us to know.  That secret is that OWS really stands for Old Wasted Socialists, not Occupy Wall Street!  Anyone who has visited the protesters, as we did during the first weeks of the movement, has known this all along.  Thanks to the growing number of aging, left wing has-beens who have joined their ranks, the world now knows.  We also know that these unfortunate individuals are actually the 1% rather then the 99% they claim to be!  Gosh, I bet Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are sorry they threw their hats in with these folks!

Annual Christmas Display at Entrance to Travis AFB

Airmen Stand Up to Bullies

There can be no question that the United States of America is under attack on multiple fronts from within.  Whether it’s the socialists trying to ruin our economy, the homosexual recruiters infiltrating our public schools or the so-called immigration ‘advocates’ trying to overrun our country with drug dealers, each one is waging a war on America and everything that we stand for.  And each of these enemies from within have a common ally defending them…liberal lawyers.  Over the last several decades this war on America has opened on a new front…the War on Christmas, led by a small group of atheists, some multiculturalist-diversity groupies and the pc crowd.  Good heavens, even Santa Claus and the venerable Christmas tree have become targets of their hateful invective (see WOW).

‘War on Christmas’ Deniers

For those who deny that there is a War on Christmas, take note.  A single atheist at Travis Air Force Base out in Fairfield, California was apparently offended by the annual display of holiday greetings at the entrance to the base, a display that has helped bring the holiday spirit to thousands of military heroes and their families each Christmas over the past 17 years.  The display consists of signs offering holiday greetings from the various squadrons represented on the base, as well as a Nativity Scene and Menorah.  The lone atheist reported to ‘The American Atheists’ that he was offended by this cheerful display, whereupon this dissident organization representing a miniscule segment of American society immediately threatened legal action against the Air Force.  Threatening to sue is, of course, their modus operandi.  To his credit, the Commanding Officer of the Air Force Base refused to remove the Christmas display.  Instead, the publicity seeking atheist was diplomatically allowed to put up a sign along with the other holiday displays.

Atheist’s Display Acknowledges Christmas Holiday

Ironically, the sign put up by the atheist at Travis AFB acknowledges the Christmas holiday season simply by its placement alongside the other holiday greetings and by using the words ‘Holiday Season’.  We salute the Air Force and the Commanding Officer of Travis Air Force Base for standing up to the bullies who are waging war on Christmas.  The great majority of folks who live or work at Travis Air Force Base or who visit there for medical care enjoy the display every year.  And most would be honored to have someone greet them with a ‘Happy Hanukkah’, or ‘Happy Chinese New Year’, or a ‘Ramadan Kareem’…as well as ‘Merry Christmas’!  One has to seriously question the stability of someone who would be offended by Christmas.  Come on!  There is nothing offensive about Christmas…the most inclusive, welcoming, up-beat holiday around!  For heaven’s sake, Christmas displays are popular even in Japan and atheist China now!  You would have to be a real Scrooge or perhaps a liberal with a political agenda to eschew Peace, Joy and Good Will.  Or maybe some people just enjoy wallowing in victimhood.  Bah, Humbug!

Christmas is an American Tradition that is Here to Stay!

Let this be a clarion call for those of us who cherish our nation and the Christian values upon which it was founded.  We simply are not going to allow a few disgruntled individuals or a bunch of liberal lawyers or a small contingent of ‘America bashers’ to diminish a sacred Christian holiday that has not only become a beloved American tradition, but is part of the legal fabric of our country.  After being approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Christmas was officially declared a federal holiday by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1870.  Since then (and long before) millions of Americans have enjoyed the Christmas holidays as a time to celebrate the Savior’s birth with family and friends.  A Gallup poll suggests that 95% of Americans today celebrate Christmas.  We will be watching very carefully next year, expecting the Nativity Scene to be on display once again at the entrance to Travis Air Force Base.  In the meantime, you can do your part by joining me in wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

Remembering Pearl Harbor

Awakening a Sleeping Giant

Seventy years ago this week, the United States was attacked by Japanese naval aviators at Pearl Harbor, T. I. (Territory of Hawaii).  Although Hawaii would not become the 50th state of the United States of America for another 18 years, this belligerent action was nonetheless an attack on American ‘soil’.  In fact, the bombing raid by Imperial Japan on December 7, 1941 was the first attack on American soil since the War of 1812, when British troops captured and burned the capitol in Washington, DC.  Americans would not see another attack on our homeland until September 11, 2001, when more people were killed by Islamic terrorists than were killed by the Japanese during the attack on Pearl Harbor.  In each case, the United States responded swiftly and with vigor and the world learned that it is best not to ‘awaken a sleeping giant’.

Former Enemies Now Best Friends

On the Seventieth Anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor we salute all the men and women of the ‘greatest generation’ who served their country during World War II.  This is also a good time to pause and reflect on the many young men and women still standing the watch around the globe, fighting a brutal, tenacious enemy so that the rest of us can safely sleep in peace each night.  We pray for ultimate victory over the tyrants whose goal is to enslave the rest of the world, just as they have enslaved the unfortunate people in their own countries.  We also pray that one day those counties will  become our best friends and allies, just as the British and Japanese people have been for so many years.  May God Bless all those who have worn the uniform of the United States military and all those still serving.  And may God Bless the greatest nation in the history of the earth.
